BOSTON TAX DAY TEA PARTY IN NEW LOCATION

THOUSANDS EXPECTED TO JOIN APRIL 15, 2009 BOSTON

TAX DAY TEA PARTY IN NEW LOCATION

Due to the overwhelming response from citizens, the Tax Day Tea Party has moved.

BOSTON – April 14, 2009 – What was initially expected to be a simple anti-tax and governmental waste rally at the Massachusetts State House, has grown to thousands of citizens interested in coming out to participate in the Boston Tax Day Tea Party. As of Monday, the event location has been changed to The Boston Common, with hours 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM, and guest speakers from 12:00 NOON – 3:30 PM.

“The event has quadrupled in size, so moving it to a new location to accommodate the crowds was essential,” said Corie Whalen, Event Volunteer Coordinator. “We started as three women volunteer citizens seeking to bring the nationwide Tea Party movement to Boston. We have bloomed into a tremendous event with over one dozen citizen speakers, hundreds of people on blogs and message forums and thousands of people expected to join us on Wednesday. This already has surpassed all of our expectations,” said Whalen.

The nationwide Tax Day Tea Party movement is a grassroots group of Americans who’ve grown disgusted with egregious government spending and inequality in taxation. Over 3,000 Tea Parties are planned nationwide for April 15, 2009.

Todd Feinburg of WRKO-AM will act as emcee for the event. Confirmed citizen speakers represent a variety of grassroots organizations and include: Carla Howell, Committee for Small Government; Jim Stergios, Executive Director, The Pioneer Institute; Chip Faulkner, Associate Director, Citizens for Limited Taxation; Shawni Littlehale, Smart Girl Politics; Barry Hinckley, State Director, MA, Fair Tax; Bob Hedlund, State Senator Plymouth and Norfolk District, R-MA; Michael Johns, conservative leader and writer; David Tuerck, Exec. Director, The Beacon Hill Institute; Brad Marston, Managing Director of The Foundation for Conservative Solutions, LLC, co-Founder of Lets Get This Right.org; Kris Mineau, President, Massachusetts Family Institute; Paul Jehle, Executive Director, Plymouth Rock Foundation; Dale Graessle, Objectivist, speaking for the Ayn Rand Center for Individual Rights.

    “THOUSANDS EXPECTED”

But only a few hundred at most showed up, they were enthusiastic but a smaller crowd than I had anticipated….

I admit I was only in the Common from around 12:30-2 today so I guess the crowds came after I left….

Mitch Townsend from Chicago Boyz also seems to think it was less than thousands:
“My guess is that a couple of hundred people were there at any one time”

And the AP is also reporting:
“In Boston, a few hundred protesters gathered on the Boston Common — a short distance from the original Tea Party — some dressed in Revolutionary garb and carrying signs that said “Barney Frank, Bernie Madoff: And the Difference Is?” and “D.C.: District of Communism.”"

I would say more than a couple of hundred but less than 2000 at any one time. I am sure people drifted and came and went. 11-3:30 was a long time. We had nearly 2000 RSVP’s saying they would attend.

An accurate count is actually not important. The important thing is that attendance was significant and enthusiastic for a protest midweek in downtown Boston. This has struck a nerve, many people were asking ‘What is Next and where do I sign’.

The Speakers and volunteers were simply amazing.

Bruce, you should have come over and said Hi (or maybe you did :) )

    • My hat off to Wrench, GOPMOM and everyone else who organized this.

It was a great day, a great crowd, and the message was delivered.

We need to keep this ball rolling, and Wrench as I said yesterday I’m here to help when you want or need me!

My son skipped school for the day and we were there from 11:00-3:30. The crowds picked up after noon. I’d say it was fairly consistent 800+ at any time, but there was also constant turnover so more than that showed. (estimate based on years of speaking in auditoriums ranging from a few hundred to a few thousand attendees.)

Pleasant afternoon. Nice to meet like-minded people. Only downside was the sound system. You’d think a high tech-haven with lots of geeky entrepreneurs could have come up with something better than miking bullhorns. Listening to the speakers took serious effort and concentration they were so difficult to hear.

As a true American I think we should all get behind our president in this time of national crisis and support him and remember what it means to be patriots. Oh, wait, I forgot a Democrat won an honest election. No, that won’t do. We must do evberything we can to undermine him and help the enemies of the USA! Go GOP! Go!

    • Being a patriot is not blindly following the President or Congress.

As for the legitimacy and honesty of the election, there are a lot of questions as to that–too many to go into here.

“help the enemies of the USA”…? I believe that there are about 537 (Congress + President & VP) people in Washington who swore to uphold and defend the Constitution and in many cases were committing perjury by doing so.

A patriot is someone who looks at everything done in the context of the founding documents, centered around the Constitution of the United States. We haven’t had an administration there for 2 decades that even attempted to do that… and in my opinion much longer.

I think Jon needs to get his history and facts from someone other than HuffPo.

I’ll second that. I agree that we should support our president in a time of crisis, but just as I did not support the “stay the course” mentality, I don’t support this administration’s course of strategic planning with the socialist end-goal.

Patriotism comes from loving the present yes, but as Mad Patriot says, it’s from loving the origination and history that are far more important. We are the land of opportunity, not taxation with the mind of handouts. We are the land of liberty and justice for all, not just those agree with the regime. We are the greatest and most dominant country in world history, and that’s not by mistake. Let’s not stray from this, or we won’t return to it.

Checking out the video clip posted by Jim (who must have been standing a few feet away from me, because that was my view as well) — I’m not seeing any right-wing terrorist looking types that Ms. Napolitano should be worried about. A short pan to the left in the early part of the clip shows an elderly woman, someone’s great-grandmother no doubt. There were a lot of elderly people there, including a few of my mother’s friends from her retirement home that I happened to bump into. Everyone I met was courteous and friendly. Thanks to everyone for organizing this and I look forward to the next event!

I don’t know, Cheverie. I’m really starting to like the “Right-Wing Extremist” label. It has really freed me mentally. I no longer feel like I have to temper what I say when I encounter one of the boobs.
