Michael Ramirez and the Death of Journalism

Wrench and I were fortunate enough to be able to attend a Pioneer Institute breakfast at the Union Club in Boston this week, where Michael Ramirez was the guest speaker.  What a treat – especially on the seventh day of rain in a row. (Is there such a thing as “Global Soaking”?)

Anyway, we are truly fortunate to have been there to hear Michael speak about his life, his career and his philosophy.  He’s sharp as a tack and refreshingly honest about his conservative beliefs and how those beliefs shape his work.  He claims to be a member of neither the Republican or Democrat party but rather a member of the “No-Stupids” party.  He’s wildly popular with a loyal following in over 400 newspapers and now, a brilliant book.

In light of the bizarre events regarding the staged Huffington Post question at the Presidential news conference Tuesday, it was serendipitous to be at the breakfast.  Michael spoke poignantly about journalism today and the challenges we encounter, as citizens eager for specific and truthful information, in trying to discover the facts we need to have in order to make policy decisions.  And contrary to today’s political climate, Michael reminded us, once again, the politicians work for us, not us for them.

With the infectious malaise that has settled over conservatives as we battle daily against the Obama administration’s offensive on our liberties, it was refreshing to be in such enlightened company.  When news channels allow themselves to be hijacked by entertainment news while our Representatives are voting to destroy jobs and tax us all into poverty, it is imperative that there remain, somewhere out there, a voice of sanity.

*IMHO, the best place to get your daily dose of Liberal media bias – which means you’ll also conveniently get to review all the biggest MSM stories of the day – Media Research Center CyberAlerts
