Cap and Trade/Tax = Death to America
Pundette over at HotAir says it so well all I need add is that I cannot wait for the Senate version. C-Span has never been so interesting – or had such high ratings!
I never thought I’d have this in common with Michelle Obama, but I’m not feeling so proud of my country this morning; the painful truth is that every member of Congress was elected by American voters. And now, with lots of assistance from our chosen representatives, we’re committing societal suicide.
My favorite bit -
While we’re at it, way to go, American voters, for electing such a cool president. In your addled celebrity-worship-warped minds, coolness is all. A culture that adores the famous for being famous because fame confers coolness is a sitting duck for the likes of Obama, whose image fits so perfectly into the template of contemporary cool. (And a tip of the hat to our msm, too, without whom none of this would be possible.)
Be sure to follow the link to Michelle Malkin who has the eight GOP reps who voted for this monstrosity. I guess it wasn’t enough for them that 44 Dems voted no. Is this some sort of long, drawn out resignation? Are they not paying attention? They should either switch to Dem now or start researching how to get one of those “millions of green jobs” this bill is supposed to create.
Allow me just to add that I, too, am finding it difficult these days to be proud of my country. Between the Prez’s abandonment of our Constitution, his disdain for our allies and his unwillingness to stand up for what is right (small r), it’s all I can do to grumble a “One day they’ll figure it out, I just hope it’s not too late” to myself every time I hear an Obamabot defending the crap bag. (Good news, this is happening less and less everyday.) Oh well, I guess I’ll just have to review more of our nation’s history – there’s more than enough to be proud of in our past.

Of course, they always have to ‘blame’ Obama’s win to his cool factor, or some sort of brain washing.
Part of the population couldn’t have possibly voted for him because they agree with his policies, it was because he put more videos on youtube then John McCain did!
Marie, Your blind and blanket support for this, for lack of a better term, man is disturbing at best. It is more obvious than ever you have no understanding whatsoever of the political process and the motivations behind Liberals’ policies. If all you could come up with to comment on regarding the entire Cap and Trade issue is whether or not I still “blame” Barack’s “coolness” for his election, you are too stupid to participate.
But for the record, I have never blamed the crap bag’s supposed coolness for his election – I “blame” idiots like you who believe the illusion of cool is more important for your own self-esteem than smart and sensible policies that support the future success of our nation – and therefore the entire free world and those who would live in freedom.
Ahh. But that isn’t what I was commenting on. I was referring to the GOP forever standing stance on how us brainwashed Liberals are bessotted with our beloved Prez. It’s funny, the GOP really can’t stand part of America actually being able to tolerate the president.
My favorite bit –
“It is more obvious than ever you have no understanding whatsoever of the political process and the motivations behind Liberals’ policies.”
Really? Because from your slow down of posts and commenters it is obvious to me that your ranting tirade of all things wrong with Obama is loosing steam.
You lack respect for anyone who may disagree with you because your side, of course, is the righteous one. So, call me an idiot, or stupid, because I dare have opinions that differ from your own. But do try to get over yourself at some point.
“It’s funny, the GOP really can’t stand part of America actually being able to tolerate the president.”
That’s pretty pot and kettle, isn’t it? I mean, come on. Whose side is worse at “tolerating” the other side’s President? Have you heard of Keith Olberman? Geez, do you even read what you write? Give me some credit, at least I haven’t compared the guy to any early 20th century German megalomaniacal mass murdering dictators – yet.
I haven’t been posting as often for myriad reasons – one, we got the Swine Flu so were out of commission here at gopmom HQ for weeks and two, I’m working on building the GOP in my town and in MA and considering a run for Congress. There’s nothing like putting your money where your mouth is! So it’s not that I’ve been lulled into some sort of Obama-malaise, it’s just that I’m finding more effective ways to fight back.
And I do not claim “righteousness”. That is an excuse used by your side. I just claim to be right. Contrary to Liberal beliefs, there is always a right and a wrong way and your side chooses wrong more often than not – that is why I will not compromise, agree, agree to disagree or give in. Wrong is wrong is wrong is wrong no matter how you frame it. And you are an idiot. I just hope you grow out of it.
And I’m not losing (not loosing) any sleep over the lack of comments. It’s just proof that none of my readers disagree with me.
Or, that you have very, very few readers.
“And you are an idiot. I just hope you grow out of it.”
Lol – if listening to others and basing my views off of my personal beliefs and morals makes me an idiot, then so be it.
But seeing as you clearly havn’t at 38 (39?), maybe there isn’t any hope for me.
Oh well.
I really don’t care how many readers I have. If I did, I would’ve been writing about that jackass, pedophile Michael Jackson for the last four days.
I’m 38 and counting but grew up “officially” at 21 whilst attending an inter-faith conference on Capitol Hill, where I was told by a bunch of Liberals to give up my car, open up my apartment to the homeless and dedicate my life to serving those who will not serve themselves. It only took about three seconds for me to figure out the difference between a Liberal and a Conservative. I chose to be the better of the two – a Conservative. And that has served me well, so that I can raise a family, live a nice life and give back.
I don’t know what your personal beliefs are other that “the world owes me” something. And I don’t have a clue what your moral code might be – you’ve never given any indication what you believe to be right vs. wrong. You just spout party rhetoric and campaign slogans. Honestly, I don’t think you’ve ever said anything original here except for relaying a few personal stories that indicate that you think the world owes you something. Because of all of that, I have nothing to offer you. I do not and have not ever expected you to believe or adopt any of my beliefs. I just publish the facts on which I base my opinions. And I (almost) always offer the link(s) back to where I got my facts. You don’t have to like my opinions but your inability to accept fact can be explained only by your youthful stubbornness – which is why I keep saying I can’t wait until you grow up/wake up. You are smart and your abilities and willingness to work hard will either be taken advantage of or squandered by the political ideology to which you have hitched your wagon. I just hope that I am still around when you decide to switch sides.
Cap and Trade is an unnecessary and punitive tax against those that have resources – not necessarily the wealthy (except by Liberals’ definition). It will cripple our economy, eliminate even more jobs and there is no reason for it. Global warming is a myth that has been used by political strategists to build a political movement and climate change is a natural occurrence.
Who is going to pay for this? Who can afford to? The people who are already expected to pay for everything else. At some point the money runs out. Then what? Whether you believe the Liberal hype about how this recession started or not, you cannot deny that in parts of our country, the situation is worsening – it does not seem so locally, for now because there is still so much wealth here. But it is dwindling and also, people are moving wealth out of the country – rightfully so. There is a limit to what the government can require of you – no matter how much good they claim they can accomplish. And the kind of “changes” the admin are proposing have been tried repeatedly – with no success. Why would it be different now? If you take the personalities and identities and ideologies of the politicians out of the equation and simply analyze policy and history, the Liberals/Democrats are wrong. And they are harming our country and threatening our immediate and future security and stability. And why? Simply to secure power. It’s been done over and over again around the world – sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. What the admin is doing, as I’ve said before, is lowering the playing field so everyone is equal (in misery.) Cap and Trade is just another way of doing this, with taxes on the “rich” and rebates for the “poor”. Honestly, how long do you think the “rich” will put up with this? And do you truly believe that people who have worked hard to create something of value for themselves and their families are required to just give it up voluntarily to be redistributed to those that, for some reason, have not achieved anything?
What I’d really like to hear from you is an honest examination of policy – or just admit that you think rich people suck and everything they have should be stolen because poor people are owed. Not attempts at witty comebacks.
What I thought was telling was the 44 Dems that voted no. Currently, they have a very popular president in office, and with most people in congress having very low approval ratings, why would these 44 break with their popular leader? Could it be that they felt this would cause crushing job loss in their districts? Could it be that they felt the increased costs would over-burden their constituents? Could it be that they did not read the bill, and in their leader’s stated goal of transparency, refused to vote for a bill that the public (much less they) had no time to read?
Frankly, I think things needed to be done about the economy, healthcare, and climate in this country, however, massive, costly, and unpredictable steps do not at all seem wise.
Really? Something needs to be done or something needs to be done by the government? We have been most successful when the private sector has driven reform – the industrial revolution, the “greening” of our lives (the coolness factor of going green has converted far more people than gov’t requirements) and the privatization of the energy industry (National Grid) in the UK.
As to the economy, what can the gov’t do except cut taxes to keep more money flowing?
And health care – how about we got rid of the 25 million illegals, stopped counting the 13 million who just don’t want to pay for it, including the “invincibles” or the 8 million who qualify for medicaid and medicare yet do not apply – how many are left without coverage that want it? Less than 5 million!!!!! Maybe if we allowed tort reform the industry would not be suffering. Health care and insurance to pay for it are and should remain optional – not mandatory. And the government should stay out of it. Please don’t tell me you think it’s a civli right. Yes, it would be nice if everyone in America could get high quality health care every time they need it – oh wait, they can!!!!!
And as for climate change – it happens. We are responsible for about half of the carbon in the atmosphere = which is 3% of the atmosphere. Surely you can see how this global warming hoax is and was simply a rallying point for the Dems to coalesce power? It’s a myth? But even if it is true, how can anything we do in America counteract what is happening in China and India? Are we going to force them to adopt the ridiculous policies that will destroy what’s left of our (still privately owned) industrial sector?
This is suicide. Surely you see all of this as the power grab that it is. The government needs to stay out of this as much as possible. The private sector works – every time – as long as government keeps their noses out of it.
Let me specify, before you assume my stance, GOPMOM:
Healthcare: Stop states from independently instituting restrictions/laws thereby driving up the administration costs. More costs they have, the more consumers pay. Also, look at capping some of the liabilities. If the malpractice goes down, so does cost, and again, less to consumers, thereby making it more accessible to the consumer. Additionally, let’s not count in the statistics people who opt to self-insure. As they don’t feel they need insurance, we should not list them as part of the “crisis”. These three steps will help ease many of the problems, perceived or real.
Economy: There does need to be government oversight, regulation, and enforcement, but not much more than there is now, and in many cases, less. Let’s not forget how costly it is to collect and track taxes. Simplify the code, and shave them back a bit on wage-earners. They will spend it, and it will then come back in taxes in other forms to the gov’t anyway.
Climate: We don’t need to pollute as we have. Nuclear produces very little “carbon footprint” and reduces our reliance on oil. The gov’t can offer more and greater tax breaks to people using renewable alternative fuels (solar, wind, hydro, etc) within reason. We don’t need to go overboard as the “Cap and Trade” bill has, but we can also do better than we have in polluting as well. Whether you believe in man-made global warming or not, we all believe in smog and similar pollution patterns that damage property, cause health problems (save on healthcare costs?), and cause our surroundings to at the very least appear worse.
This and every bill this administration has put forth has been about power grab. So many groups were afraid of government power in the last administration, but they seem too happy to have it now. We are truly facing a scary change for this country. It is unacceptable.
So, we agree that sometimes something needs to be done, just not by the government – great.
Sorry I wasn’t more clear in that I understood your stance was “no more government” – it never has been before so why would it now. I was just using your comment to point out how ridiculous all of this power grabbing is – and dangerous. But I’m down with another infection and fever (I think I’m allergic to one of my dogs and it keeps causing sinus infections) so I might not have been 100% clear. I know we’re on the same side.
P.S. How’s that baby girl? Let’s get together when we return after the 4th.
I stick to my premise that the government should be involved in defense, infrastructure, protection from others, protection of our helpless (truly helpless), and protection of property. They should be the safety net when things fail, but never be involved in the problem. They can stay out of religion, morality, and the economy. If private business offers a solution, the government should not be competing… ever. This bill, as well as the others passed this year violate this caveat.
Thanks for asking about the little one. She went from being a skinny little old man to being the Michelin baby in 3 months. It tough being wrapped around that little tiny finger.
Sorry you aren’t feeling well. I’d offer some chicked noodle, but it’s a little warm. Maybe the wife and I can offer something else medicinal to you and Wrench?
Exactly. It’s the difference between “leading” and “dictating”. If the government wants fundamental change within the private sector, they have two weapons – incentive via tax breaks and extortion via tax rates.
So, which one is our “dear leader” using?
(Too bad that won’t fit on a bumper sticker!)
The biggest joke in Cap and Trade is the “prizes” policy – the awarding of prizes for new technology. Nevermind that it need not work – just come up with an idea that the government should spend a few hundred million on and you’ll get it – if you’re connected properly, that is. Why don’t they just write a bill that says they can write a check to anyone they want as long as that person provides so many votes? At least that would be honest, something sorely missing in the admin. Are we living in Honduras?
Government is not (and almost never is) the answer to anything.
I have to agree with the Mom on this one 100%.
The bigger the government the more tyrannical, and the less liberties that we have. Our founders created this nation with a vision, and one which WORKS, if we let it.
