Obama’s Message is Hollow

It’s no secret I’m not a fan of the Obamas.  As I sit at my kitchen counter this morning catching up on the news, my interest is focused on the protest/prayer vigil being conducted at Notre Dame.  I wish I was there.  I have such respect and admiration for those who have given of themselves (20,000!) to be a part of this important moment.  And I am in awe of the students who have given up their hard earned right to stand before family, friends and faculty to receive their degrees, in order to stand up for their fundamental beliefs.  It is rare to have the opportunity to publicly stand up for what you believe in and honestly, I’m a bit envious.  No matter where you stand on the issue of the right to life, surely we can agree that through this  personal sacrifice, these students are truly “walking the walk”.

But as I peruse the internet this morning, I find that many out there have no admiration whatsoever for those who have decided they cannot be a part of a ceremony honoring an individual who, in his own words, has not earned the honor.  Why is that?  Why is it unacceptable to disagree, publicly or privately, with him?  Why so hateful?  Isn’t this, as Obama himself has said, an opportunity for dialogue?  And if so, how can Obama reconcile saying he is undeserving to one graduating class yet accept such a high honor from another?  Am I the only one perplexed by these mixed messages?

Now don’t think I’m naive.  As I’ve said before, Obama will take any honor you’re wiling to bestow – especially if it comes wrapped up in extra coverage on the nightly news, as if that were possible.  He has shown no ability to recognize his moral failures of the past, why should now be any different?  What he has shown is a constant ability to tolerate the most repugnant of people, policies and behaviors when it serves him.  There is no consistent message because there is no consistent morality.  The Obama message has to change everyday because the world, the situation, the polls, change everyday.  Therefore, nothing is sacred, nothing is non-negotiable, nothing is written in stone.  Everything is relative, everything is based on achieving the best possible outcome – for Obama.

The words that Obama will speak today no doubt will include encouragements to continue working hard to achieve personal goals – standard commencement fare.  And there will also be the advice on being responsible, giving back, sacrificing and ‘keeping on keeping on’ during difficult and challenging times, with the routine  subtle digs at the previous administration, the war, the state of the economy, our “tarnished” reputation, etc.  And Obama is expected to address the Notre Dame ‘controversy’, as if it could be summed up in one word.  This should prove enlightening – maybe he’ll use his “I won” line again – the Notre Dame president’s position apparently.

No matter what his tele-prompter tells him to say today, the hollowness of his message will ring true.  Talking the talk without walking the walk is sinking the Obama ship.  History shows us that what the American people ultimately look for in a leader, in good times and bad, is honor, honesty and consistency – Obama delivers none of these.  It will not be this administration’s failure to deliver its grandiose campaign promises that will destroy it, it will be the lack of principle, the moral failures, that will and are quickly eroding Obama’s image and eating away at his imagined mandate to remake America.  It is not America that needs remaking, Mr. Obama, it is you.

Interesting post, and, yes, agreed Obama is a good talker. Wondering if he ever says anything from the heart and on his own two feet, or will he always have his remarks prepared for him on a scroll bar beneath a teleprompter?
