Clinton Goofs on Russian Translation, Tells Diplomat She Wants to ‘Overcharge’ Ties

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton gives Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov a gift bearing an incorrect translation — one that implies hostility, rather than peacemaking.

Now, I’m not expecting her to know the nuances of the Russian language but I think she should at least have an understanding of the democratic tradition. We weren’t the first one, you know. And who in the White House picked out the gift for PM Gordon Brown? Has that guy been run over by the Obama bus yet?

Oh yeah, they totally know what they’re doing. We shouldn’t be concerned at all. And all their picks should just breeze right through the vetting process.

On your knees America. Only prayer can save us now.

    The reference is from a hastily erected restaurant in Beijing. It was built to service the Olympic tourists.
