GOPMOM Note: Obama bulldozer pushes on – Volunteer Corps
Well, never let it be said he doesn’t try.
Despite the AIG bonus scandal – you know, the one where the idiots in Congress wrote a clause into the Stimulus-a-palooza that allowed for the previously contracted bonuses but because the public found out, the same elected officials in Congress that are tripping over each other to get in front of a camera, calling for the names of private citizens, threatening 1000% taxes and contract abrogation, dismissing the death threats against families and children as simple drama, drama, BTW, they are using to whip mobs of Americans into a frenzy, going so far as to suggest suicide, for Pete’s sake – and all this to avoid taking any responsibility for handing money to a company that sent nearly $100 billion of it to other banks and overseas. Despite Geithner sinking the economy faster than Schumer’s loose lips can sink a bank and despite all the evidence that everything he touches turns to sh*#, our Dear Leader Barack is pushing through yet another campaign agenda item this week – his enlistment of the American youth (and seniors too) into a Civil Service Corps. Leave it to a community organizing Democrat Liberal Progressive Socialist lying crap bag to mandate community service. What a toss pot. Psst, here’s a secret all Americans need to know – we don’t have to mandate it – some of us just do it because we know it’s good for the country, good for our communities, good for our fellow citizens (and non-citizens) and good for us.
From FoxNews
The House of Representatives is expected to pass a measure Wednesday that supporters are calling the most sweeping reform of nationally-backed volunteer programs since AmeriCorps. But some opponents are strongly criticizing the legislation, calling it expensive indoctrination and forced advocacy.
On the surface, it might be difficult to understand why anyone could possibly be opposed to this measure. Well, aside from the ridiculous price tag – which has yet to be determined exactly (of course) but is somewhere in the $1-$2 billion range. Oh, and the ridiculous premise that you can force people to do charitable works. As I’ve pointed out before, we do this already but it’s usually under threat of jail time.
“Volunteerism is part of the American spirit of generosity, and we all stand in support of those who will share their time,” said Wilson, who was voted against the bill with Minnesota Rep. John Kline and California Rep. Tom McClintock.
“However, while our economy and our government is in financial trouble, it is not the best use of taxpayer dollars to spend the level of money on new and existing programs included in this bill.”
The legislation would create 175,000 “new service opportunities” under AmeriCorps, bringing the number of participants in the national volunteer program to 250,000. It would also create additional “corps” to expand the reach of volunteerism into new sectors, including a Clean Energy Corps, Education Corps, Healthy Futures Corps and Veterans Service Corps, and it expands the National Civilian Community Corps to focus on additional areas like disaster relief and energy conservation.
Sounds good, no? Except I don’t want some untrained 18 year old to show up at my door during a natural disaster – I already have a kid to take care of. And I don’t need any advice on saving energy – we’re doing just fine here at GOPMOM central cutting back our energy usage. (Have I joined the Global Warming cult – no. But energy transportation charges are way up so our bill keeps going up even though our usage is down so we’re conserving money.) As for education, I got that covered, too. I don’t know what Healthy Futures means – I certainly hope this has nothing to do with national health proposals. As for a Veterans Service Corps – uh, haven’t they already served? I don’t know about you but this just seems like a sneaky way to get people to work for the government – for free!
But some critics on the right suggest that the president’s push for national service goes too far, and the recent congressional steps toward expanding the federal role in volunteerism and “civilian service” smacks of a larger agenda.
This is sort of how I see it – a larger agenda. Am I going to go off on an all-encompassing left-wing conspiracy to brainwash our youth, exhaust our senior citizens and enslave our veterans? No, too easy. And I won’t even mention how the Liberal PC everyone-deserves-a-third-and-fourth-chance wackos are just trying to mainstream the phrase “community service” when we all know it really only applies to drunks, juvenile delinquents and dead beat dads. And don’t even get me started on the “this is the way to reach out to those who never believed they had anything to offer, to make them feel worthy” touchy-feely crowd. You don’t have to be a privileged white suburbanite to pick up the garbage drifting down your street on trash day. Or to plant some flowers at the local playground. Or to volunteer to pick up groceries for you shut-in next door neighbor. Or to shovel the snow on the sidewalk out front.
Can we just call this what it is – Barack and Michelle Obama, the two whitest black people in America, trying to instill a little “personal responsibility” in the sector of our society that has so far neglected to give as much as they get. The Wonder Twins did not get where they are without a lot of hard work and now they expect the same of those of you who haven’t been doing your fair share. I just find it incredibly sad that they have to bribe people to do what they should be gladly willing to do. Charitable work is about giving back, about gaining some perspective, about being able to recognize that someone always has it wosre than you do, about seeing what a group of people can accomplish when they come together rather than go it on their own – kind of like how ACORN banded together to scam millions from the Feds so that they could steal a Presidential election. (Have you see the USA county map – this is a red country, don’t you believe any differently.)
You don’t shouldn’t need to be told by the MSM and a bunch of Hollywood twits and a gang of hip hop hooligans that you should vote “this time” because a black guy is running and it’s finally your chance to show the world how truly “beyond race” America is, time to show everyone how you count, too, time to send a message that you will not be oppressed, repressed and depressed any longer. Most of us have known this all along. Even Barack Obama knows that sometimes you have to be “present” to be accounted for.
So I’m not going to lose a lot of sleep over this latest abuse of power being proposed in Congress at the behest of the Obama administration – he has given every indication he is going to continue plowing through his agenda no matter what the cost, no matter how big of an outcry, no matter how absurd or antithetical to the American tradition. Our Dear Leader promised to remake the United States of America into the United American Soviet Socialist States (UASS’s for short) and he’s doing his best to get ‘er done. Just as I am doing my best to resist at every step. I’ll fight him on every attempt to steal the freedoms guaranteed to me, as a citizen born in these United States, in the Constitution, as is my daughter. And if some government “civil servant” shows up at my door, with her name on a list of those expected to serve, I’ll set the dogs on him.
