If these are the idiots who are going to have to pay back the stimulus, maybe it isn’t all bad.

I knew nothing of this historic event, so I Googled it – if only to learn what horrible injustice had been visited upon these beleaguered ‘yewts’ to force them into this desperate act of “civil” (”We’re being civil here! No brutality please!”) disobedience.

I should have guessed. According to the NYT  http://www.nytimes.com/2009/02/21/nyregion/21nyu.html in addition to the usual laundry list of demands lifted from the MoveOn handbook for spoiled college kids, the protesters “also asked that the university provide 13 scholarships a year to students from the Gaza Strip and allow graduate teaching assistants to unionize.”

The second-best part of the account is: “[A]bout two dozen students inside the dining room awoke on Friday morning to find that electricity and their wireless Internet had been cut off.” the horror!

I love the young lady wandering around in a semi-stupor with both hands raised, displaying the “peace” sign.   I also love when the ringleader berates a “dude” for not paying attention, and says, “fine, we’re going to have consensus without you.”  I ALSO love that he uses “consensus” repeatedly as both a noun and a verb.

The students’ website is noted in that NYT article. It’s worth a look for a laugh too. It promises vegan meals for protest participants, among other things. NYU should have sent in campus police brandishing salami. “Disperse now or we’ll touch you with meat.”

OMG, Dan. Stop. Stop. Now I have to go to the loo… again.

I’m thinking in honor of these “freedom whiners” – I’d love to see the expression on the faces of the Taliban when this video goes viral – we get together on a Friday night and play the Consensus game. You know, watch the movie and every time you hear the word consensus, you drink. The best part – being the grown-up, productive people we are, we don’t have to guzzle warm, watered down beer. We can afford a bottle of nicely aged Scotch – with a drop of “corporate water”.

    Mom,
    You missed the pointiest point.

Porkulus bill. Sec. 9302, Higher Education Modernization, Renovation, And Repair.

NYU (PreK-K1) will not be able to use money from the Porkulus bill because one of the students was carrying scripture.

  4. Take Back NYU rocks!

I love those guys! A team of the world’s best comedic screenwriters could not have scripted their pathetic last stand to play out any funnier. Corporate Water???? That’s the most patently bourgeois thing I’ve heard in a long time. Water is bad, Apple is good? Take Back NYU! is going to ruin the Apple brand altogether; Apple is marketed for slackers, NOT hippies.

And why did Take Back! narrow their goals when they were doing so well and capturing the imagination of the worldwide public? Why not go all the way and fight to achieve federal protection for the Cape Fear River shiner, one of the most endangered fishes in North America? Or demand that the porn industry replace the hurtful “MILF” genre of adult film with the less judgmental “experienced women” title?

If only they had not been so pragmatic, this really could have been a changed world. . .

  5. LOUDelf says:

I want to get a consensus here… priceless

  6. GOPMOM says:

ELF, You said consensus. Now you have to drink.

  7. ATG says:

    i hate hippies

  8. GOPMOM says:

The don’t compliment them by calling the hippies.

  9. ATG says:

    No compliment intended
