Boston Tea Party 2009
As always, Iowahawk is the pinnacle of eloquence:
I wish I could take credit for it, but it took the collective effort of hundreds of thousands of us in the subprime community, working with the financial industry and public sector officials. Unfortunately, there is another group out there who is working to kill important financial bailout reforms just as they are sparking a renaissance in the American housing market. I’m speaking, of course, of the so-called “Tea Party” tax protesters.
More Details coming soon.
April 15th, Noon. Boston, State House Steps City Hall Plaza
Permit process has begun. Spread the word.
UPDATED - Watch the revolution. It’s getting interesting. The Left is getting nervous. They can’t decide if it’s all part of a highly organized grand conspiracy orchestrated by conservatives to lead conservatives in taking back the country or if we’re just a rag tag bunch of nuts. Apparently our home-made signs are drawing scorn. It would seem we need a “community organizer” and some stimulus money in order to conduct a protest worthy of their admiration. Hmmm, I think I’ll make home-made t-shirts for our Boston Tea Party – that should really horrify them.

After seeing such enthusiasm for Tea Parties, I would point out to you a fact that a large number of grassroots conservatives have been involved in a 13 year old movement to bring POWER back to the citizens of this country. The FAIRTAX advocates have preached the BOSTON TEA PARTY approach for at least the 5 years we have been involved. Over seventy members of Congress (both sides of the aisle) in the last congress co-signed HR-25 and Senate Bill 1025. But to no avail, because both Elephants and Donkeys want to keep The Power!
I am thrilled to see such courage in my fellow citizens and I will stand by you. But just as the recent CPAC meeting brought up different speakers with different agenda’s, which accomplish very little, so we must take a lesson from that and make sure we are focused on the same page.
The original Boston Tea Party was about taxation without representation. The citizens then, as now were powerless to change their circumstances without resorting to desperate measures. But they organized the PARTY and got ready for a war. Our stand must make it clear to our liberal leaders that we will not allow them to maintain power over our tax dollars. We will instead replace them with each new election.
Liberals get frightened when they see the silent majority start to become vocal. But if our conservative leaders do not organize and stand firm and focused and if we do not have a united agenda, we will fail in this endeavor.
I believe we have a great opportunity to rid ourselves of the burden of Federal taxation. I am sure many of you are already Fairtax supporters. But for those of you who are not, please educate yourselves and your friends and family. I believe that we can only return POWER to the PEOPLE by way of decreased Federal control and that is by way of a new tax code. If we decide where and when we pay taxes, then the Washington could no longer spend without our consent. Their power is based on the antiquated tax system and administered by the current Turbo Tax Cheat Secretary of the Treasury.
I’m with you, Jackie. 100%
And I apologize for coming to the table so late as an active participant – notice I did not say organizer. Spread the word – we need our leaders to know now – both Democrat and Republican – that we will not stand for irresponsible spending policies designed to enslave the American public. And then we need to find the leaders who will truly represent us. You sound like a good candidate.
“The Left is getting nervous. They can’t decide if it’s all part of a highly organized grand conspiracy orchestrated by conservatives to lead conservatives in taking back the country or if we’re just a rag tag bunch of nuts.”
Getting nervous? You give yourself far too much credit. What’s really amusing is that *despite* the support of wealthy right-wing organizations (and don’t try to pretend that Koch isn’t helping fund this, and that Michelle Malkin isn’t in his back pocket) you’re only able to get a couple of hundred people to show up at any given time. The marketplace of ideas has judged you, and you’ve failed. You’ve failed in the last election, you’ve failed in your protests. Keep trying though.
Geesh, can you people even read? I’m not taking credit. It’s all Rush’s doing – otherwise the admin wouldn’t be “Clarence Thomas-ing” him. And it’s people all across the country who have always known this is the wrong way to go. And it’s the people who have realized what Obama is all about and will be sorry for the rest of their lives they voted for him – numbers rising daily.
And your assumption that this is all “wealthy right-wing organizations” is pretty ridiculous – there aren’t any wealthy right wing organizations any more – the bribe money has all gone to your side. I’m organizing a Tea Party and I haven’t gotten one call yet, not one dime – unless that email from Nigeria yesterday was some sort of “code”.
“The marketplace of ideas has judged you, and you’ve failed.”
Um, Dot, it’s not that marketplace that matters. Seen the Dow? And conservatism is not an idea – it is a way of living and many more Americans realize this is the best way to live – personal responsibility for you and your choices and your successes and failures. It may be a bit more difficult than the liberal way but at least there is a reward – freedom.
Now, I know it’s shocking that the emperor has been revealed to have no clothes, especially to a supporter who probably bought the books and bumper stickers (and probably sent donations taken directly from your welfare check) but the rest of us, as always, know what the outcome of this debacle will be and we will make calls, write letters and protest to our hearts’ content, if only to help us sleep better knowing we are not the suckers.
“Conservatism is not an idea – it is a way of living and many more Americans realize this is the best way to live – personal responsibility for you and your choices and your successes and failures”
Sorry to blatantly rip off Barack, but how do you reconcile this with the “I am my brother’s keeper” ideal?
Hey Dot!
In regards to your comment,”You’re only able to get a couple of hundred people to show up at any given time.” You see, people who don’t feed off the system actually have to work for a living. Unlike the deadbeats and bums on the left. We’re not sitting around on our a$$es and leaching off the taxpayers dime.
Pragmatism first: drop me an email so I can be sure we aren’t duplicating efforts.
Second thing: We actually may get a few hundred dollars for our little event. Yes, a mere $200 or so from a “deep pocketed” national group. The only reason we would get a dime is because Boston requires people to carry a ridiculous amount of liability insurance ($1 million, which must also completely indemnify the city) before waving a few signs around.
Now, if the national Tea Party group – funded by a bunch of bloggers – comes through to help us out with this one, is that really “deep pockets” who are “funding” this thing?
Now, my dear Dot, if numbers count, how do you justify holding pro-choice views when the pro-life crowd gets a quarter-million people every year to march on downtown Washington DC? Wouldn’t it be clear that the people have spoken, and Roe needs to be reconsidered?
Tea parties are popping up in many communities in the nation with increased participation. And with little to no media coverage by the mainstream media and no “Obama Machine” to pull any of them together. A lot like the outraged colonists back in Boston during our nation’s infancy. It’s fascinating and laudable: grassroots efforts by regular law-abiding, taxpaying folks who are sick and tired of supporting welfare programs are protesting the proposed government interference in our lives, outrageous taxation, and the direction of “Amerika” by Dear Leader, not ACORN community organizers. Yes, the informed Left is nervous – or should be. Patriots, unite!
Sam, We’re/I’m getting quite the run around from Boston. Apparently we need an insurance policy in place to hold our Tea Party – something I am unwilling to pay for and I refuse to ask for donations to cover the expense. So, we’re a March – a moving protest.
I’m looking forward to it. I’ve gotten dozens of replies from all the sites the event is listed on and I am looking forward to a good turn-out. And I’ve got friends in good places – Fox and CBS in Boston. If you’re in NE or know anyone here, let them know.
Right now, I’m debating what my sign will read – Tax Political Rhetoric not my Charitable Contribution or Tyrannical Taxation is Antithetical to the American Tradition. Of course, what I really want to do is draw a picture of Homer Simpson in an Obama ‘08 shirt with the caption “D’oh!” – I think this one really speaks the truth. Plus, even an Obama voter will understand it.
ATG: “Sorry to blatantly rip off Barack, but how do you reconcile this with the “I am my brother’s keeper” ideal?”
ATG, how do you reconcile being one’s brother’s keeper with forcing others, on pain of imprisonment, to hand over money to your brother? What did Christ teach that said “coerce, by threat of force, everyone in your nation to give money to your pet causes”?
The Christian teaching says give freely, not force others to give. You are not being moral or just by voting for someone else’s money to be forcibly taken from him, rather, you are voting for tyranny.
GOPMom: We may get the national Tax Day Tea Party group to help with the insurance aspect of it. Perhaps.
I got a quote for it. Assuming about 300 people, it would be $250ish. In theory, we could also contact someone in the state Congress and point out that insurance is an encroachment on our First Amendment rights. $50 or so for a permit is one thing; a private insurance policy is another.
You’ve got my email; please let me know what your group is doing, because the one I’m organising is also trying to get something together. It would be nice to have one big rally, rather than two smaller ones.
Count me in. You need to get Howie and the Herald to start talking this up.
Send them an email or an editorial!

I was born in Worcester Mass. Now live in Arkansas(21 years).Left Mass because of the liberal corrupt politics.Had a small busness there.Or in the words of Ted Kennedy,a bottom feeder. Its not a heck of a lot better here, but the weather is by far. There is quite a few tea partys comming up here, main one at the capital in Little Rock. Here is a poster idea…NO MORE IN YOUR FACE POLITICS !,with a picture of a pie with word TAXES on it being thrown by a(take your pick)politican,at a poor “average” American citizen.I have more, but I am tired now.INSURANCE? I don’t need no stinking insurance !
I have never been involved before, but I am now. Those who practice irresponsibe behavior, including the US Congress and including college administrations, get out of my way. Way too much of the proceeds of my hard work are going to others. While others were drinking beer in the forest every weekend in high school, I was studying. Now, get out of my way, stay away from my family, and stay away from me.
